When the Family Narrative Changes: Maintaining Connection with LGBTQIA Children with Play Therapy
A child may be a member or have curiosity about the LGBTQIA community and this discovery may halt, or even destroy the narrative parents have unknowingly placed on the child. This workshop will focus on maintaining the connection between the LGBTQIA child and family with play therapy.
Learning Objectives:
*Discuss rewriting family narratives within the play therapy setting in relation to parents who are having difficulty with maintaining connection with their child.
*Demonstrate methods of connection between the parent and child within the family play therapy setting.
*Analyze the importance of focusing on guilt, loss, grief and fear which are common feelings of parents of LGBTQIA children.
